Rodeph
Shalom blends tradition and innovation in a Reform Jewish
setting. The Congregation, incorporated in 1795, continues
to be located in its historic Philadelphia metropolitan location
in Center City.
A warm spirit,
the sharing of ideas, life cycle events, new and sustained
friendships, new and deepening interests, all prevail at Rodeph
Shalom. Our Congregation expands one's sphere from the neighborhood
to the larger community, and asserts kinship with K'lal
Yisrael, the whole family of Israel.
Our
openness toward interfaith families creates an atmosphere
where children, their parents and grandparents are comfortable
in our sanctuary, classrooms and events.
Rodeph
Shalom continues to honor its Classical Reform heritage,
renewing itself and evolving as a community.
The Congregation considers fundamental, the intersection
of the four pillars of its community:
- Beit Tefilah - House of Prayer
- Beit Tikkun Olam - House of Social Action
- Beit Knesset- House of Community
- Beit Midrash- House of Study
The
Congregation's ritual practices continue to evolve. Basic
to our ritual practices is the Congregation's
enduring participation
in Jewish art and music.
Rodeph
Shalom continues its long tradition of Tikkun Olam through
its program of RiSe Up! House of Social Action.
Rodeph
Shalom is committed to our community. The Congregation regularly
sponsors events, study, community work and other activities
in which we participate together for ourselves and society.
We
are truly dedicated to being a "Congregation of
Learners." In
addition to coursesand lectures, Torah Study is a regular
occurrence
every Saturday morning.
As
you take time to explore our web site we hope that if you can't
find the information you seek, you will contact us either through
this site or by more traditional methods.

Summer Series
Fridays, July 4th - August 29th
The Joy of Prayer in Our New Mishkan Tfilah
Its almost summertime in the
city which means at RS we will be relaxing with
a series of Casual Shabbat Summer Services. This
summer, during each of our Shabbat Services, we
will highlight one prayer from the new Mishkan Tfilah
. Together, we will study a prayer and reflect on
how these prayers inspire us, challenge us and speak
to our souls.
These are the prayers we will be highlighting:
July 4: Shalom Alechem: Angels of Shabbat
July 11:
Psalm 96: Sing Unto God
July 18: Psalm 92: A Song for Shabbat
July 25: Lcha Dodi: Welcoming the Bride
August 1: Hashkivenu: A Shelter of Peace
August 8: Vshamru: Shabbat Keeps Our People
August 15: Ritzey: The Prayer for Prayer
