B'nai Mitzvah Program (age 13) B’nai Mitzvah In Jewish tradition, a young person begins the journey to adulthood at the age of thirteen. A Bar or Bat Mitzvah is a son or daughter of the commandments, and as such he or she realizes that, like a parent, Jewish living provides life, shelter, sustenance and growth. With every Bar/Bat Mitzvah, the congregation welcomes our youth to become full spiritual members of the community. On the Shabbat morning of their Bar/Bat Mitzvah, students lead the congregation in prayer, chant from Torah and Haftarah, and relate the meaning of our sacred texts to our lives today. Bar/Bat Mitzvah is a great accomplishment that begins with study in the Mercaz Limud, continues into a series of sixth grade B’nai Mitzvah orientations, then six months of individual study with an Rodeph Shalom tutor as well as a Mitzvah Project of the student’s choosing, and culminates with final preparation with our rabbis. Please call Rabbi Jill Maderer at 215-627-6747 with your questions about B’nai Mitzvah.
